 Welsh Love Spoon

The tradition of Welsh Love Spoon began with young men wanting to impress their sweetheart with an elegant gift. Wood was plentiful and the time invested was part of the gift to win their lady over.


Yarn Making

Wool and yarn have been large commodities for Wales for centuries. One way to keep that tradition alive is to learn to make yarn. Here is an example using a drop spindle:



Coracle Building

The traditional Welsh fishing vessel is the coracle. These small one man vessels are made from willow branches and are most often used in river fishing. The word coracle is an anglicized version of the Welsh word gwrwgl. This video shows the construction of a simple coracle using plastic and flexible branches that can be used immediately. Traditional coracles took weeks or even months to construct and served the builder for many years.
