In an effort to help Americans with Welsh ancestry connect with their roots, we are designating the last Saturday in February every year as a heritage day. This date was chosen because it is the Saturday before St. David's Day- March 1st.
St. David is the patron saint of Wales, and St. David's Day has been a public holiday in Wales since 2000. It honors the date on which St. David died in 589 AD. Prior to this it was a Catholic holiday which started along with his canonization in 1120 AD.
The first Welsh American Heritage Day as marked here, was celebrated February 26, 2022
